Bonjour Banh Mi - Vietnamese with a twist
When you think of Vietnamese food, what comes to mind?
When you think of Vietnamese food, a plethora of flavors and vibrant dishes filled with fresh herbs and spices may immediately come to mind. The cuisine is renowned for its perfect balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy elements, creating a harmonious sensory experience that excites food enthusiasts worldwide.
Banh mi, Pho, Rice Paper Rolls…but what about - Croissants?
The owner (who is also Vietnamese) had a crazy idea to merge the infamous Vietnamese dish with flaky French pastry and create a dish that would feed anyone's curiosity.
Let’s go! ❤️
Just a teaser of this beautiful creation - Banh Mi Croissant
Menu:
First thing you will notice when looking through the menu - the price.
For a venue near the city, these are exceptionally great value for authentic Vietnamese food. Yes, if you travel further down South you can get for cheaper… but petrol ain’t cheap 😂.
Also, the Banh Mi & Croissant are the same price; it’s hard not to try it out and compare it to the traditional light bread roll. We we also very hungry after pacing ourselves for the meal… so we ordered a few items. Might try the Pho when the weather is more for it.
Banh Croissant:
Pate - Butter - Cucumber - Lemon Grass Chicken - Carrot - Daiken - Corriander - Soy
They baked the croissants fresh and toasted to order.
Beautifully melted butter and pate sandwiching everything together to make the perfect bite.
Is it better than the standard Banh Mi… debatable 😂
It is messy, delicious and very filling - so if you’re packing an appetite, go team croissant.🥐
Crispy Pork & Rice:
That beautiful puffed crisp pork crackling 😍
Honestly - this is my kind of salad.
Ample amounts of protein, a perfectly fried egg that oozes lusciously down the rice mound, and a side of freshly picked veg.
I’m not the biggest rice, however the coconut rice next door at Lemak would make me eat it all lol. But, their housemade crispy pork does not disappoint.
Banh Mi:
This ain't your average sandwich, folks. It's a Vietnamese street food legend!
Every bite is a party in your mouth - textures galore, sweet, salty, savoury; it's got it all!
Airy, toasted bread piled high with savoury grilled meats (we had the Traditional Pork & the Crispy Pork), pate, pickled veggies for a tangy crunch, and fresh herbs like cilantro.
Rice Paper Rolls and Spring Rolls and everything else:
Rice paper rolls are like fresh spring rolls' lighter cousin. Imagine translucent rice paper wrappers ours were filled with juicy pork & prawns, crunchy veggies, and fresh herbs like mint and basil. Every bite is a burst of flavour and texture!
On the other hand, spring rolls get their golden brown magic from a quick fry. They come packed with savoury fillings like pork, shrimp, & veggies, and the crispy exterior gives way to a warm, flavorful interior.
Cà phê đá, a Vietnamese specialty, is a robust, brewed coffee poured over ice and sweetened with a hint of condensed milk. It's a sensory delight, offering a refreshing and creamy respite on hot Vietnamese days. ☕️
Trà đá is all about simplicity. It's brewed green or black tea served over ice, with a squeeze of lime or a touch of sugar. Light, refreshing, and perfect for beating the heat.
Not gonna lie… I can’t remember the exact number of dishes we ordered.
However, we made a pretty significant dent in the total. 😂
We also had lunch sorted for the next day… and possibly dinner.
Summary
Ambience ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Service ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Food ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
It’s Vietnamese cuisine that won’t offend with the Croissant addition and is incredibly affordable considering its’ location. Flavours are fresh & vibrant; the seating may be limited in this venue, but taken away it is still delicious (as my missus tells me from her croissant banh mi) 😂🙌🏻
Very aesthetic interiors with its light green walls and beautiful decor.
Give it a shot, it may be your new local favourite.
