Lunch at Dapple and Waver
Walking into Dapple + Waver, our first impressions of the restaurant was that it was bar; it had an impressive island with a wide selection of drinks to choose from, plenty of bar seating nearby and booths. It was very neat with/and sharp designs. The restaurant was rather chic to look at.
We were there quite early, so we were luckily able to choose our seating of choice. There was plenty of natural lighting that was shining through the tall wide windows that surrounded the restaurant, so we naturally gravitated towards those seating, abandoning our usual preference of booths (which there was plenty of, for larger parties also).
We sat down, perused the menu and was struck by the affordability of the meals! You could easily get a main for about $20-$25 which is quite good especially with the quality of the meals we received.
It was a difficult decision, so we requested assistance from the wait staff, who enthusiastically gave us some recommendations and so we ended up picking meals from the “Share & Grazing” menu.
Menu:
We ended up with sticky pork belly bao; prawn skewers, lamb meatballs, arancini and a Pepperoni Pizza. (Yes…. way too much food we know) but…. it was the recommendation (hehe) and we had to do it 🤷♂️
The pork belly was quite tender, it literally melted in our mouths (drool). The flavours were slightly sweet from the braised pork sauce and had the crispness and refreshing taste of the cucumber to counter the heaviness of the pork meat. The bao itself was quite fluffy and we later found out that they made their own baos! Love it!! ❤️
Lamb is something that we’re generally a bit cautious about, as lamb tends to have a gaminess to it that’s not to our preference. But we were thoroughly impressed by the salt bush lamb meatballs that came highly recommended by the staff. It had quite a nice firm texture, chewiness which is what you’d want with meatballs - the worst type is soft meatballs 😂😩 . There was no gaminess. 😊
Seafood is always a favourite these days and so the lime & chilli prawn skewers made our menu. The prawns were so sweet! fat & crisp which you only get from being cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed the sauce – slightly tangy sweet and slightly spicy (not too much don’t worry) 5 skewers were really not enough…….. 😞
We also ordered the arancini balls, I mean…..how could we not? Its arancini balls….with cheese?? 😲 That itself is a given! I especially love, besides the fact that its arancini balls, was how the shaved cheese was completely smothering the deep fried perfection and looked like christmas had come to us early ❤️. It was fried to perfection, with that bit of crispness of the outer shell married perfectly with the soft rice that was inside.
Onto our last dish which was the pepperoni pizza. It was really thin and surprisingly fluffy at the same time. It honestly looked like it was from a stone pizza oven - but I don’t remember seeing a pizza oven, but….. we were too busy eating to notice anything unfortunately!
I liked the sauce they had on the pizza. It was slightly saucy but not overly. The pepperoni had a nice flavor to it (not overly salty) just sad that there wasn’t more cheese on the pizza! Look at all the cheese stretches that we missed out on….. (sad face). And I know...I know….we ordered the pepperoni which is super delish, but I wish we actually had the stomach space to eat it all!! 😂
All in all it was an incredible meal that we’d enjoyed immensely.
Before we wrap up here, I just wanted to make quick note of the ambience and setup of the restaurant. Unfortunately we were too busy eating we didn’t get much of a chance to look around properly.
One thing I noticed however, was the table that was next to us on the other side of the window, was that they had a little dog.
Neither of us have dogs, we're both cat people woot! 😺 So the restaurant must be animal friendly, especially if you were seated outside. Love that!
All in all, we both quite enjoyed ourselves.
Summary:
Ambience ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Service ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Food ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
PS: the Archie Brothers Cirque Electriq is literally next door. So, obviously as you could tell 😂 we stuffed our faces silly, we needed the exercises and it was to Archie brothers that we went next. Played a few games, won a few toys…. (we wish) and left for home, happy and very full.
I would definitely return to Dapple + Waver. Can’t wait to try their other foods ❤️
